The GH¢120,000 project, funded by Nana Adom Puni III, Chief of Adadientem, has been named after Nana Kwakyewaa Mansah, Queen of Adadientem.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Ejisu/Juabeng Municipal Director of Education, Ms Gertrude Mensah, said the government was committed to infrastructural development and the provision of logistics to boost education in the country.

She said the best legacy for a child was education, and therefore called on parents to show much interest in the education of their children to enable them to grow to become responsible adults.

She said the Ghana Education Service (GES) was committed to partnering parents and other stakeholders to promote quality education in the country.

Ms Mensah called on the Ejisu/Juabeng Municipal Assembly to provide the needed support, in terms of furniture and other teaching and learning materials, to boost effective teaching and learning at the school.

The chief’s contribution

The Chief of Adadientem, Nana Adom Puni III, said the construction of the school block was his personal contribution towards the improvement of education in the area.

He added that he wanted to provide pupils in the community with the opportunity to access junior high education in their immediate environment.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Alfred Preprah, said the school lacked computers, which is affecting their practical work and a library to improve upon the reading habits of the pupils. The delay in the supply of teaching materials from the GES is also affecting teaching and learning. He, therefore, called on the chiefs, parents and philanthropists to come to their aid.

The Deputy Co-ordinating Director of the Ejisu/Juabeng Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Abdul Hussein Rasheed, stressed the need for chiefs and other partners in the education sector to collaborate with the government to provide the needed infrastructure and logistics to improve upon education in the country.

SMC’s appeal

In a related development, the School Management Committee (SMC) of the Adadietem Roman Catholic Primary school has sought the assistance of the Municipal Education Directorate, to eject the  former headteacher of the school Mr Appiah Kubi, who was still occupying his official bungalow, after he retired  has retired six years ago.

The SMC said it was finding it difficult to eject the man from the bungalow that was meant for working teachers and wanted the assistance of the municipal director.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mrs Mensah said she had been the director of education in the municipality for three years but it was only recently that the issue was brought to her attention.

She said the bungalow was built by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II through the Education Foundation and was under the management of Ghana Education Service.

She added that though Mr Kubi had not written officially to explain why he was still occupying the place, reports indicated that his wife, who is kindergarten teacher in a nearby village, Ampabame, “believes since she is also a GES staff member, she could occupy the room.”
