Each of the bereaved families received GH¢1,000 while the families of the four other pupils who survived the accident, but got injured, were each given GH¢500.

Odeefuo Buadu described the incident as most unfortunate and pointed out that it was painful that those young pupils met their untimely death tragically, since nobody knew what they could become in future.

He said all the six deceased pupils had many years ahead of them that they could have been beneficial to the nation and their death at such a tender age was a big blow to their families as well as the country.

He stated that though the money could not bring the deceased pupils to life, the gesture would go a long way to reduce the plight of their parents.

He further called on other public-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the bereaved families in these trying times.

Collaboration

He added that instead of spending so much time to apportion blame, it was important for communities, the government and parent-teacher associations to collaborate to ensure that classroom blocks were safe for pupils.

He indicated that the government alone could not shoulder the maintenance of schools across the country, so stakeholders must work hand in hand to protect the lives of pupils across the country.

He asserted that the tragic event was preventable and that all hands must be on deck to support the government to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils to study in.

Bad state of schools

He admitted that some other classroom blocks within the district were in deplorable states and called for pragmatic steps to prevent a future occurrence of the incidence in the area.

He urged the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, to redeem his promise to ensure the rehabilitation of such classroom blocks in the district.

The spokesperson of the families, Mr Kwame Abdulai Johnson Ampoma, thanked the Omanhene, the traditional council and other individuals who sympathised with them when their children met their untimely death in school.

He particularly expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it would go a long way to settle some of their medical and burial expenses.
