Cape Coast Poly SRC undertakes project

Cape Coast Polytechnic Student Representative Council (SRC) is constructing a six-storey students’ hostel at a cost of GH¢24 million to improve on the accommodation problems facing students on campus.

The first phase of the project, which involves the construction of the ground and first floors, is expected to be completed in nine months, at a cost of GH¢5 million to provide accommodation for 500 students.

The building, which is scheduled to be completed in six years, will accommodate 2,500 students. 

The Chairman of the Polytechnic Council, Mrs Emelia Aning, cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, the SRC President of the polytechnic, Mr Benjamin Asamoah, said at the initial stages, the project would be financed from the SRC dues, while in the near future, they would solicit support from philanthropists and also through fund-raising activities to complete the it.

He said it became necessary  to undertake the project, considering the accommodation problems facing students, adding that, “Some landlords have also taken advantage of the situation to charge exorbitant fees for accommodation.”
