He provided 30 brand new computers and their accessories (hooked on-line to the Internet), projectors, furniture, air conditioners, electricity for the building and printing machines to replace those provided by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) in 2007.

Mr Ofori-Dankwa, who is a businessman, has also employed a number of seasoned staff to run the centre for the next five years to enhance its sustainability.

He stated that he was moved to undertake the project to ensure that the youth in the district improved their knowledge in ICT, which is now the cornerstone of progress throughout the world.

Poor management

The GIFEC established the centre and handed it over to the community and the Wa West District Assembly in 2007, but it became desolate due to the inability of the community to maintain it.

In a speech read on his behalf, the UWR Minister, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan, expressed regret that the ICT centre which was established with all the pomp and grandeur to enhance the study of ICT in schools in the area had degenerated over the years.

He called for collaboration between governmental and non-governmental organisations and benevolent individuals through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme for the country’s development, since the government could not solve all the problems single-handedly.

He expressed optimism that the youth in the various educational institutions would make good use of the ICT facility to promote academic studies and research work.

In his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of Dorimon Traditional Area, Naa S.D. Gori II,  expressed his gratitude to Mr Ofori Dankwa for his gesture, saying the facility would go a long way to assist in the socio-economic development of the area.
