The 100-page book, “A Practical Guide to Crime Prevention,” authored by Mr Roy Agbleze, a certified fraud examiner, seeks to inform the public on the facets of fraud, cyber crime (sakawa), office security and the preventive measures one can adopt.

The book explores the issues and states that as long as there is human deception, there would be fraud, hence the need to prevent them.

The eight-chapter book delves into topics such as crime and the various schools of thought, your business and office security, cybercrime (sakawa) and your computer, frauds and fraudsters, and identify fraud.

The author

Mr Agbleze, who is an investigative psychologist, says the motivation behind the book is to guide the public to protect themselves against crime and be cautious of the activities that expose them to crime.

He said the police could not prevent all crimes, hence it was necessary for the public to be equipped with the right information so that they could protect themselves.

Having worked as a professional investigator, Mr Agbleze said unconsciously, people gave out information about themselves, thereby exposing themselves to fraudsters.

“Fraud, cybercrime and sakawa have taken the centre of crime reporting, Mr Agbleze said, adding that  the public needed to  be informed to enable them to identify fraud and human deception, among others.

Collective responsibility

Launching the book, the Director of Commercial Crimes Unit at the CID headquarters, Superintendent Felix Koku Mawusi, described crime prevention as a serious issue and needed the collective responsibility of members of the society.

“It is a collective responsibility and every institution must come on board to help prevent crime in our society,” he stated.

He said the centre of crime prevention was the mind explaining that fraud prevention was how quickly one was able to detect a fraud and prevent it and cautioned the public against transacting business on unsecured websites.
