The projects, which were funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) and the District Assembly Common Fund at a total cost of GH¢290,000, are made up of two three-unit classroom blocks and computer rooms.

Handing over the projects at separate ceremonies at the Tarango Junior High and the Bongo-soe Basic schools, the District Chief Executive for Bongo, Mr Alexis Ayamdoo Adugdaa, said the assembly was making 793 dual metal desks to be distributed to some selected schools in the district, indicating that priority would be given to the newly constructed schools.

Government directive

He said the construction of the schools were in fulfilment of the government's directive to district assemblies to construct two three-unit classroom blocks and two Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) Compounds in each district every year.

He said education was essential to addressing poverty and urged parents to invest in their children’s education.

He said the government was doing its best by providing school infrastructure, as well as rolling out some interventions such as the School Feeding Programme, the distribution of free school uniforms, sandals and exercise books to ease the financial burden on parents.

Commendation

The Planning Officer of the Bongo District Directorate of Education, Mr Mbela Padmore, commended the assembly for adding to the educational infrastructure in the district and gave an assurance of effective supervision and monitoring to ensure proper maintenance of the blocks.

The Chief of Tarango, Naba Abelenzi Ayetah, said indiscipline among the youth was seriously affecting the standards of education and urged educational authorities to support the upbringing of children.
