In line with that, the district assembly presented 500 mono desks valued at GH¢68,000 to the district directorate of education at Adabokrom for distribution to the public schools that did not have enough furniture.

The district, carved out of the Bia District in 2012, was confronted with many problems in the educational sector, including inadequate schools, deplorable school infrastructure and lack of teachers to man the classrooms. In some schools, children had to provide their own furniture.

Making the donation, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwame Twumasi Ankrah, noted the importance of education in national development and said that was why the assembly was committing a chunk of its resources to educational  development.

He said the assembly would ensure that every single child had a desk to sit on to learn.

“When this is done, it will provide a congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning to go on,” the DCE said.

The District Director of Education, Mr Nsia Takorah, thanked the assembly for the support and expressed the hope that it would continue to offer similar support to the schools.
