He noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government had committed more resources to improve education in the country and that it was important for students to take their studies seriously so that the government would benefit from such investments.

Mr Armah made the call when the assembly disbursed scholarships to 89 students in senior high schools and nursing training colleges in the district, at a short ceremony in Awutu Beraku.

Disbursement

A total of GH¢31,272 was disbursed to the beneficiaries. The district assembly provided GH¢22,470 out of its District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to support the scheme, while the MP for the area, Madam Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, supported with GH¢8,802.

Some of the beneficiaries are from the Obrachire Senior High Technical (OSTECH); Senya Senior High; and Bawjiase Senior High schools, as well as some nursing trainees and other students in the district, who are schooling outside the district.

He stated that education remained the surest path to overcome ignorance, poverty and inequality which was the reason behind government’s bold commitment to provide accessible, affordable and quality education at all levels.

Educational needs

Mr Armah added that the government was addressing the nation’s educational needs towards the attainment of universal access to secondary education.

The DCE mentioned that scholarships for needy, brilliant students under the Scholarship Improvement Programme had been instituted at the Obrachire Senior High Technical and Obrachire Senior High School.

He stressed that the two senior high schools in the district were benefitting from the government’s policy to increase and expand infrastructure in existing secondary schools, aimed at absorbing more qualified junior high school graduates.

He urged parents to play their active roles in ensuring that their children excelled in their education at the various levels.
