The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated the Headmaster of St Augustine's College in Cape Coast Mr Joseph Connel following his controversial interdiction in October.

The GES interdicted Mr Connel for allegedly charging fresh students unapproved fees for the 2016/2017 academic year.

The Ministry of Education had said at the time that the decision to interdict Mr Connel was based on the outcome of investigations into the charging of illegal fees.
The Board of Governors of the college and the past students union, APSU vehemently opposed the interdiction and called for his reinstatement.

APSU's Letter
A letter from the Augustine's Past Students Union (APSU) secretariat to the Director General of the GES said "In spite of our conviction that the entire process leading to the interdiction was avoidable, we are nonetheless grateful about the eventual outcome".

The APSU letter said over the short period that Mr Connel was absent, some challenges had arisen in the college but added that the secretariat was confident in the leadership of the college, the college board, headmaster and other stakeholders to steer the college back on track.

"We trust that all stakeholders have picked some useful lessons going forward”, it said.
