AUCC holds 13th congregation

Founder of African University College of Communications (AUCC) Kojo Yankah, has urged Ghanaians to blend modern and indigenous approaches with peace-building processes to ensure a solid foundation in resolving conflicts.

He said stakeholders in communication had to start sending students and reporters to the palaces of chiefs to record and transmit peace-building proceedings for nation building.

Mr Yankah made the statement when he addressed graduands at the 13th graduation ceremony of the AUCC in Accra recently.

Dialogue to resolve issues

Speaking on the theme, “Building peace through our communication”, he explained, “We have come a long way in our democratic dispensation and we do not need to destroy the gains we have made.”

Mr Yankah, who is also the Chairman of Board of Directors of TV3 Network, made reference to a Somalian proverb which says: "If you can't resolve your problems in peace, you can't solve them in war," reiterating the need for political actors to use dialogue to resolve issues.

“Cases that have been in official courts for years are resolved in a matter of days at the traditional courts. Why have we abandoned them?” he questioned.

The President of AUCC, Dr G. Koryoe Anim-Wright, congratulated the fresh graduates on their hard work and determination to acquire knowledge.

He used the occasion to announce AUCC’s collaboration with an internationally acclaimed Ghanaian author, poet, playwright and a former Minister of Education, Madam Ama Ata Aidoo, and gave a hint of plans to launch the Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing in March 2017.
