The regional minister made the call at the best teachers awards ceremony organised by the Asunafo South District Directorate of Education at Kukuom, the district capital.

He said the government recognised the role of education as a catalyst for accelerated development, and was investing heavily in it to ensure that the country provided quality education, hence the provision of infrastructure for basic and second cycle educational institutions.

Mr Opoku said the Asunafo South District was one of the few districts in the country which boasted massive school infrastructure and gave an assurance that the government would continue to invest heavily in the provision of educational infrastructure across the country.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Regional Director of Education, Dr George Adjei-Henneh, advised teachers to eschew negative tendencies such as excessive drinking, indiscipline, absenteeism and lateness to school. He indicated  that teachers and education workers were extremely important since they were the backbone for the delivery of quality education.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Asunafo South District Director of Education, Mr Hayford Kwadwo Osei, had expressed gratitude to stakeholders in education, especially the regional minister, for their immense contribution to the development of education in the district.

Mr Gabriel Adjei of the Asufufuo District Assembly Junior High School emerged the overall best teacher and he was presented with a deep freezer and certificate as his prize.
