Assembly hands over desks to schools

The Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly has handed over 500 mono desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to public schools in the municipality.
The production of the desks, which was funded with money from the assembly's Common Fund, was in response to a request made by the municipal education directorate.

At a handover ceremony at the forecourt of the assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Seth Badu Tawiah, emphasised the assembly’s commitment to the provision of quality education in the municipality, and gave the assurance that it would not shirk its responsibilities in order to ensure that pupils received quality education.
He said the assembly was getting more desks produced to address the shortfall in furniture in schools in the area.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr Yaw Fosu Dankwa, indicated in September last year that public schools in the area needed about 1,700 mono desks and 2000 dual desks to ensure that students and pupils were comfortably seated in the classrooms.
According to him, the Education Ministry had already provided 500 dual desks to some of the schools, and expressed gratitude to the assembly for also coming to their aid, indicating that the provision of furniture for the schools would go a long way to enhance teaching and learning and also provide the children with a conducive atmosphere during examinations.
He said some centres he visited during the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) did not have adequate furniture.
