Ashaiman Number One, Two basic schools appeal for materials

The Ashaiman Number One and Two basic schools, located at Tsui Bleoo, a suburb of Ashaiman, are in dire need of educational materials, and that is impacting negatively on teaching and learning.

Expressing the concern, one of the teachers, Madam Abena Adu-Adjei, said the school lacked basic educational materials and, therefore, appealed to corporate institutions in the municipality to extend philanthropic assistance to the school, as teachers strived to impact knowledge and further improve performance.

Madam Adu-Adjei made the appeal when the management of FWF Microfinance Limited, which operates in the municipality, last Wednesday presented 1,000 branded exercise books for distribution to the entire student population, in line with its corporate social responsibility.

She said whereas Ashaiman was an urban community, the poverty situation in some of the suburbs had made it difficult for some parents to provide the necessary learning materials for their children.

As such, she said, the school had to depend on philanthropists in its quest to ensure that pupils were afforded quality education, in support of interventions from the government.

Commendation

She commended the management of FWF for the gesture, and expressed the hope that many other benevolent groups operating in the municipality would extend a helping hand to the school.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FWF, Mr Robert Mensah Aheto, for his part, indicated that FWF Microfinance, which had focused its social responsibility programmes on improving education, had collaborated with Free Fellows International, a non-governmental organisation, to make available educational materials to Ashaiman Cluster of schools and other educational institutions.

“Education holds the key to success and we are determined to contribute our quota to ensure pupils in Ashaiman have access to basic education,” Mr Aheto said.

The Assistant Headteacher of the school, Ms Emmanuella Tsyawo, and the Circuit Supervisor for the area, Mr Francis Koomson, commended FWF for the gesture and pledged to ensure the pupils, who were beneficiaries of the donation, put the books to good use.
