Anlo Education Trust Fund awards scholarships to 10 students

The Anlo Education Trust Fund has awarded scholarships to 10 brilliant, needy students selected from senior high/technical schools in the Anlo Traditional Area, with effect from the 2017 academic year.

This brings the total number of beneficiaries of the fund to 72. The trust fund was jointly established in 2009 by the Awoamefia, Torgbui Sri III, and the Keta Municipal Assembly, to foster educational development in the traditional area.

The scholarship covered admission, feeding, library, examination and other relevant fees, excluding Parent Teacher Association (PTA) dues.

A six-unit classroom block was also sponsored by the fund at Gbetsivi and had been inaugurated by the Awoamefia, Torgbui Sri III.

Presenting the awards to the students at the palace of the Awoamefia at Anloga, the Chairman of the trust fund, Professor V.P.Y Gadzekpo, said the trust intended to expand the scope to cover vocational and skill training to enable those in the informal sector to acquire skills to become self-employed.

He appealed to eminent citizens of Anlo, corporate bodies and benevolent citizens in the society, to donate to the trust fund to enable it to support more needy students.

Advice

In an address, the Awoamefia, Togbe Sri II,I asked beneficiaries to utilise the award to become productive citizens and future leaders.

He commended those who had contributed to the fund, saying that their gesture was an expression to the development of human resource towards the entire development of Anlo.

For her part, the Chairman of the Public Services Commission, Dr Mrs Brigitte Katsriku, asked parents and students to take the scheme seriously because it was designed for them to access education which had become an indispensable ingredient than any other resource in every facet of life.

Discipline

She said it could lead to the steady development of the area and, therefore, asked students to learn hard and be disciplined. She also asked parents to support and encourage their children to justify the award because it could be withdrawn from non-performing students.

The outgoing Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Sylvester Tornyeava, urged the municipal assembly to continue to support the fund and also thanked members of the trust through whose efforts and dedication the trust had been successful so far.

He reiterated his appeal to citizens to enrich the fund by contributing to it.
