Anglican University College inaugurates Nkoranza campus

The Anglican University College of Technology (ANGUTECH) has inaugurated its premier campus at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region to mark its operations.
Inaugurating the campus at Nkoranza last Friday, the Archbishop of Internal Province of the Anglican Church of Ghana, Most Reverend (Rev.) Dr Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, called on the government to compliment the efforts of private universities by supporting them with infrastructural facilities and other necessary incentives as are being enjoyed by public tertiary institutions.
That, he said, would also enable a greater number of the youth who have no access to tertiary education, an opportunity to attend one in their own environment.
The archbishop paid special tribute to the Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, for donating four square miles of land and a substantial amount of cash towards the establishment of the university.
The Vice President of the university, Professor Kwasi Nsiah–Gyabaah, said the university would house three schools; School of Agriculture and Bio Resources Engineering, School of Food and Health Sciences and School of Social Science.
According to Prof. Nsiah–Gyabaah, the university was currently offering programmes leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Engineering, General Agriculture, as well as Soil and Water Engineering.
The Vice President of the university called on qualified students to avail themselves of the prospects of the university and enroll with the institution to acquire skills that would make them self-employed for improved livelihood.
"The Anglican University College of Technology would welcome the good intention of private individuals and corporate bodies who would construct hostels and lecture halls for the institution and that the facilities could be named after those people to serve as a legacy for posterity", Prof. Nsiah-Gyabaah said.
The Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) , Madam Stella Amoatemaa, commended the Anglican Church of Ghana for establishing the university to enhance the education of the youth across the country, saying the government appreciated the efforts of the management of private institutions as the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of funding all schools in the country.
Madam Amoatemaa said the government was also working hard towards the realisation of the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ and that a total of 557 infrastructural facilities comprising classrooms, dormitories, ICT centres and furniture had been provided for selected junior high schools, senior high schools and tertiary institutions in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza also congratulated the Anglican Church for its invaluable contributions towards the development of the Nkoranza traditional area by establishing the university towards the education of the youth of the area.
The Omanhene recalled his commitment to offer large tract of land for the university project and provide financial support of GH¢20,000 from his education endowment fund in support of the university as his appreciation towards the foresight and goodwill of the Anglican Church for the development of Nkoranza.
The Adontenhene of the Asanteman Council, Nana Adu Gyamfi, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, presided over the function and gave the assurance that the over lord of Ashanti Kingdom would offer the necessary support towards the growth of the university to move Nkoranza forward.
