Making the appeal at the celebration of the 70th anniversary celebration of the school, the school’s headteacher, Madam Leticia Kwofie, said erecting a wall for the school would prevent lunatics, ‘Wee’ smokers and all other unwanted persons from using the school’s premises to carry out their criminal activities that could affect academic work and expose the pupils to risks.

She said ventilation was extremely poor in the school as a result of containers that had been placed close to the classroom windows, pointing out that, ‘‘Please, do not wait for any bad incident to occur before you come to console us”.
She also indicated that sometimes lunatics attacked both staff and the pupils while lessons were in progress and mentioned that some female teachers were attacked by such lunatics who wielded implements such as scissors, pieces of wood and other dangerous weapons.

Disturbances from intruders

According to Madame Kwofie, the intruders littered the compound with refuse and carcasses that produced a bad stench which was also unpleasant to the children, pointing out that, “disturbances around the school premises by hawkers and pedestrians make teaching and learning extremely difficult since the pupils lose focus while classes are in progress’’.
She said some taxi cabs and articulated trucks used the school’s premises as their parking lot and, added that, ‘‘In fact, these situations at the school had escalated and brought fear and panic to the staff and pupils.’’

She said the school had written several letters to various authorities but no action had been taken to address the problems and appealed to the authorities of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other stakeholders of education to come to their aid and assist in the construction of a wall to protect the school.
Madam Kwofie indicated that the authorities had worked very hard to maintain discipline in the school and commended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the School Management Committee (SMC) for the numerous contributions made to support the academic progress of the school.
