Akyem Awisa Methodist JHS gets support

The Akyem Kotoku/Bosome Citizens Association in Columbus, Ohio, USA has donated a quantity of note and exercise books to the Methodist Junior High School in the Birim South District at Akyem Awisa in the Eastern Region.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Swedru, Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, made the presentation on behalf of the association at a ceremony at Awisa.

He said members of the association had decided to rehabilitate the school block which had not seen any renovation since it was constructed in 1976.

According to Mr Osei Nyarko, the association was determined to provide stationery to all basic schools in the district as its contribution towards the development of education in the area.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Irene Agyei Ohemeng, who received the gift, praised the gesture of the donors and promised to take good care  of the books.

She stressed that the books would enhance teaching and learning in the school.

Mrs Agyei Ohemeng seized the opportunity to appeal to the association as well as the government and non-governmental organizations to help in rehabilitating the school building whose roofing was leaking.

She also appealed for computers to make the pupils literate in Information communication Technology.
