The land was acquired by GNAT for interested teachers for their building projects before retirement. The project had been christened  the “Akuapem North Teachers village”.

The Akuapem North Municipal GNAT secretary, Mr Collins Senyo Tegah, disclosed this at the fourth annual general meeting (AGM) of the Akuapem North Municipal Teachers Savings Scheme at Akropong-Akuapem.

Mr Tegah reminded them that, no matter the situation, every teacher as a government worker would definitely retire from  active service one day, therefore, there was the need to adequately prepare before that day came.

He said teachers who did not plan well towards their retirement went through very stressful situations after their retirement and many died as a result.

Mr Tegah noted that the  teachers mutual fund established by GNAT was a vibrant loan scheme which helped many teachers to complete their projects before they retired and encouraged them to increase their contributions in their own interest.

Mr Issaka Adams, the Akuapem North Municipal Auditor, who was the guest speaker, said as much as teachers prayed for long life after retirement, they must also save to enhance their retirement.

The Chairperson of the scheme, Ms Lucy Mensah,  in her report,  remarked that loan recovery from members who had left the municipality was becoming extremely difficult.
