Agotime SHS appeals for infrastructural facilities

The Agortime Senior High School (AGOSEC) has marked its 25th anniversary with a call on the government and philanthropists to help improve infrastructural facilities of the school.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Emma Sylvia Draphor, who made the call, observed that since its establishment, the school had been battling with problems such as inadequate accommodation for students and staff, classrooms, science block, administration and assembly block.

According to her, the problem of inadequate infrastructure had resulted in low enrolment as people seeking secondary education did not get attracted to the school, which they considered as less-endowed.

“The people of Agortime and its surrounding communities who are the immediate target do not find the school attractive to even select it as a third choice,” she lamented.

With the increasing number of students, the headmistress appealed to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to construct an 18-unit classroom block for the school.

Despite the challenges, the headmistress stated that the school’s performance had been encouraging as students performed very well in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Training professionals

She was optimistic that AGOSEC would continue to grow from strength-to-strength because it was a school with a difference and had contributed to the training of professionals who were contributing to nation building.

The occasion was used to cut the sod for the construction of a library complex for the school. The library, upon completion, would not only provide a convenient place for learning and developing individual talents through reading but also provide the appropriate and required teaching and learning materials for both teachers and students.

The celebration attracted dignitaries such as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Henry Wampah, who was the guest speaker; the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo; Member of Parliament for Agortime Ziope, Mrs Juliana Azumah Mensah; the warlord of Agortime Traditional Area, Nene Akoto Sah VII; chiefs and some district chief executives from the region.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Wampah commended the school for making tremendous efforts  in training future leaders and further urged the students to learn hard because they were responsible for their successes in future.

GES disciplinary code

An acting Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mrs Elizabeth De-Souza, cautioned the students to desist from occultism and deviant behaviours that would go a long way to affect their dreams in life.

She cautioned students to be disciplined, warning that those who would go against the GES code of discipline would not be tolerated.

Mr Ganyaglo observed that a number of students were not making it to the universities because they woefully failed in their core subjects, and called on school authorities to pay particular attention to the teaching of these subjects so that students would pass with ease.

The school’s cadet corp, with its female commander, Bethel Agbavitor, exhibited spectacular foot drills at the celebration to the admiration of all.
