Agona East MP presents motorbikes to GES

The donation was in response to a request by the education directorate to enable circuit supervisors to pay regular visits to basic schools within their jurisdictions in order to improve performance in schools.

Presentation

At a presentation ceremony at the forecourt of the education directorate, Mrs Sawyerr said most of the schools in the area were located in the hinterlands, which made it very difficult for effective supervision.

She noted that the split of the then Agona District into two left her area with most of the deprived schools and stressed the need for stakeholders in the sector to work together to seek resources to improve education in the area.

According to her, the motorbikes would facilitate the free movement of circuit supervisors and improve performance at the basic level.

Mrs Sawyerr, who is also the Deputy Central Regional Minister, urged teachers to be committed to their work and not be discouraged by the challenges confronting them in their respective schools.

Benefit

She announced that 10 new schools would benefit from the Ghana School Feeding Programme to help increase their enrolment.

The Agona East District Chief Executive, Mr Francis Duodu Addo, acknowledged that the lack of effective supervision was a contributory factor to the falling standards of education in the district and called on headteachers to intensify supervision in schools to improve academic work.

He was optimistic that the motorbikes would enable the directorate to improve performance in the schools in the district.

The Agona East District Director of Education, Dr Abdussalam Alhaji Adam, expressed gratitude to the MP for the support and said the motorbikes had come at the right time since his outfit needed them for monitoring and supervision of schools in the remote areas.

He promised to take good care of the motorbikes and put them to good use for the district to achieve positive results in the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
