Afram Publications donate books to school

Afram Publications Ghana Limited, an indigenous publishing firm in the country, has presented books worth GH¢4000 to the Abofu Presby Basic School, near Achimota, in Accra.

The books include English, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Environmental Studies and Religious and Moral Education course books for primary and junior high schools (JHSs).

Presentation

Presenting the books, the Sales and Marketing Manager of Afram Publications, Mr Richard Atobrah, said the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility activities.

“As a publishing firm, we have most of our clients as schools and bookshops, and as such, donating to them would give more pupils the opportunity to access the quality material we have.”

According to him, the company’s ultimate aim was to help enhance the academic performance of schoolchildren, hence the donation.

Mr Atobrah mentioned that books published by the company were very relevant to the cultural and ethical upbringing of children in the Ghanaian society and beyond and encouraged the children to make use of them for their benefit.

Reading clubs

Mr Atobrah recommended that the school establish a reading club to help students achieve their full potential.

He indicated that reading clubs were very useful in inculcating reading habits in students, adding that “when you read more books it enables you to have control over the English language”.

The librarian of the school, Mr Emmanuel Nii Doku Armah, who received the books on behalf of the school, lauded the gesture of the company.

He gave an assurance that the books would be handled properly and be made available to all the pupils in the school to the expectation of the organisation.
