Adandan school gets kindergarten block

A GH¢40,000 two-unit kindergarten block has been inaugurated for the Breman Adandan D/A Basic School in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region.

The well-furnished classroom block was constructed upon a request by the chiefs and people of the area for a befitting preschool block that would enhance teaching and learning at the kindergarten level.

It was jointly funded by a Belgian couple, Mia Ackaert and Hendrik Mesure, and their friends, as well as Mrs Suzanne Van den Langenberg, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Cargill Ghana Limited, and Mr Abraham Amonoo, the Project Facilitator for Cargill Rural Education Project in the district.

State of school

The school is challenged in its attempt to provide good and quality education to pupils in the area, which is predominantly a cocoa growing area.

The absence of the kindergarten school block had compelled the school authorities to combine the nursery and kindergarten pupils in one classroom, which affected teaching and learning.

Most parents, who were not satisfied with the state of affairs in the school, refused to send their children to the preschool and preferred keeping them at home.

Inauguration

Inaugurating the classroom block, Mrs Langenberg said the project came to light when Mia and Hendrik, as part of the Cargill Rural Education Project, visited the town about two years ago.

She noted that the couple decided to raise funds from their friends in Gent, Belgium, to support the community after the area had identified the need for a kindergarten block.

She appealed to the district education directorate to provide qualified teachers to man the kindergarten department of the school.

Director of education

The Assistant Director in charge of supervision in the district, Miss Vida Amoah Mintah, acknowledged that the school was facing a lot of infrastructural challenges and therefore commended the sponsors for coming to the aid of the community.

She called on members of the community to maintain the school block since the philanthropists had invested a lot of money in the project, adding that such a move would encourage other stakeholders to come also assist the school.
