Achimota Old Students to renovate kitchen

The 1965 year group of the Old Students Association of Achimota Senior High School (AKORAS), has cut the sod for commencement of work to expand and renovate the school’s kitchen.

Estimated to cost GH¢500,000, the project is to give a facelift to the kitchen which has not had any major rehabilitation since it was constructed in 1924.

The project is expected to be completed by December this year.

President of the Group

The President of the group, Mr George Andoh, said, the expansion project was chosen to ensure that meals prepared for students were done under better conditions, and added that the kitchen would be furnished with modern equipment.

He said the project would also allow the school to invest other funds which would have been used for the project in other areas for the benefit of the school.

Headmistress

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Beatrice T. Adom, in her remarks said the project was timely considering the students population of about 2,500 out of which 2,000 students were boarders.

She explained that during the time of the 1965 year group the students population was about 600 but now it had grown, and therefore, the need to expand some structures to suit the growing population.

She expressed gratitude to the group for the gesture and added that the project would help the students.
