The project, worth about 90,000 Euros, would be funded by the DENA and Mp-tec Solar Ghana.

The Rector of Accra Polytechnic, Dr Sylvester Achio, signed for the polytechnic while the Chief Executive Officer of Mp-tec GmbH & Co. KG, Micheal PreiBel, signed for both companies.

Addressing participants at the signing ceremony, Dr Achio said the collaboration with both organisations to supply solar energy to the polytechnic had come at an appropriate time when the polytechnic was taking entrenched measures to overcome community-based challenges.

He lauded the initiative taken by the two companies to assist the polytechnic to beef up their supply of energy, and added: “We are much enthused about this initiative. It would be interesting to know that this academic year we have started some language proficiency programmes and German is part.”

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on behalf of both companies, the Managing Director of Mp-tec Solar Ghana, Mr Allen Nii Kpani Solomon, said the project would generate interest in the student body of the polytechnic to know more about solar and also to keep them abreast of contemporary technology.

Furthermore, he said the project would enable their customers to attest to the efficiency of their products, which would be introduced to the Ghanaian market.

“This project is a very good joint venture for both the polytechnic and Mp-tec Solar Ghana. In as much as it would help the polytechnic tremendously, it would also give our customers the chance to know more about our products and encourage them to purchase our products,” he said.

Mr Solomon also said the introduction of solar system in Ghana by the German company would help address the problems faced by the Akosombo Dam in supplying energy to the country.
