Formerly known as Accra Training College, the college of education also unveiled the emblems of the various halls of residence to reflect its status as a tertiary institution. The halls of residence were named after these personalities in November 2012 as part of activities marking its golden jubilee celebration.

The personalities or their representatives were tasked to provide emblems for their halls for the sake of identity and for the students to draw inspiration from them.

The halls are Nii Kwakwranya II Hall,  Ama Hesse Hall, Gberbie Hall and Bampo Henaku Hall.

Profiles

Explaining the choice of the names, the Principal of the college, Mrs Christiana Bampo Henaku, said Nii Anyetei Kwakwranya II (deceased), a former chief of La, was honoured for releasing a 225-acre land to the government to be used as a permanent site for the college, while Mr Labrehardet Ama Hesse (deceased) was honoured for being the first principal of the college.

Nene Tsatsu Pediator IV, known in private life as Mr Ferdinard Narh Gberbie, who served as principal of the college for 13 years, was credited for moving the college from its rented premises at Kokomlemle to its present site in 1985.

Mrs Christiana Bampo Henaku, currently the principal of the college, was also honoured for being the first female and the golden jubilee principal.

Mrs Henaku said “we are indeed happy to have these families with us to unveil the emblems and complete the naming process”.
