Accra Academy old students undertake project

The 1985 year group of Accra Academy has officially handed over a rehabilitated leisure park to the administration of the school.

The edifice, named the “Interact Square”,  would be used as a venue for ceremonial functions, including parades and an interactive place for visitors.

The GH¢ 38,000 project was jointly funded by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Doe Adjaho, Nana Akuako Sarpong, the Paramount Chief of the Agogo Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, and the 1985 year group.

At the official handing over of the project at this year’s homecoming celebration in Accra, Mr Adjaho lauded the leadership of the 1985 year group for initiating the project, and called on other past students to emulate the example.

The Speaker of Parliament, who is also a past student of Accra Academy, called on past students of the school to make it a point to contribute to the development of their alma mater.

Mr Adjaho mentioned the encroachment on the school’s land as a major problem faced by the authorities, adding that “we must all contribute our quota to support the construction of a school wall to protect the land.

“I, therefore, pledge GH¢10,000 as my contribution to the construction of the school wall,” he said.

For his part, the President of the 1985 year group, Dr Kamar-Ur Lat,  said the handing over of the facility which was jointly funded by the 1985  year group  was a prelude to the unveiling of a plaque by the 1985 year group later this year as part of its homecoming.

The gesture, he said, formed part of the groups’ contribution to its alma mater to help address the infrastructure gap facing the school currently.

According to Dr Lat, the idea of the interact square was conceived three years ago by the group following the inability of the school’s assembly hall to accommodate the student population of the school in the current assembly hall.

The school currently has a population of over 2000 students which makes it impossible to accommodate them in the assembly hall during the organisation of social activities.
