ABUSCO appeals for assembly hall

Authorities of Abuakwa State College have made an urgent appeal to the government and other benevolent organisations to provide the school with an assembly hall and other necessary structures to enhance teaching and learning.

Currently, the school, with a student population of about 2,000, uses the dining hall as an assembly hall and an entertainment centre.

Because of the daily re-arrangement of furniture at the dining hall to suit specific occasions, the furniture has broken down.

The school’s science resource centre is not functioning properly either because the project was abandoned three years ago.

PTA

In addition to these challenges, the school is not fenced and the Parent-Teacher Association, which has undertaken to do the job, lacks the huge capital required to do so.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Nicholas Aninagyei Yeboah, spoke about these challenges and appealed for support when he received a donation for the school from three benefactors.

The three are Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South; Mr Simon Peter Asirifi, East Akyem Municipal Chief Executive and an old student; and Mr Frederick Osafo Ntim, who jointly donated different kinds of textbooks worth GH¢5000 to the school, last Wednesday.

Negative impact

He said the lack of an assembly hall and inadequate science resource centre was impacting negatively on teaching and learning, hence the need to address the problem to enable the students to continue to excel in the final examinations.

He was hopeful that the challenges would soon be addressed and expressed appreciation to the benefactors for their kindness.

He commended Wing Commander Charles Osafo Addo  (retd), the current chairman of the school’s board of governors, for single-handedly constructing a bungalow for the staff of the school.

The school, which was founded by  Sir Ofori Atta, the then Okyenhene, 76 years ago, has over the years produced a large number of professionals such as medical doctors, engineers, politicians and teachers, many of whom are occupying responsible positions in Ghana and abroad.
