Abeadze community gets study centre

The Youth Development, Research and Innovation Centre (YOUDRIC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has inaugurated a community study centre for the people of Abeadze in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District in the Central Region.

The centre, which was constructed with funds from the North American Women Association, formed part of efforts to provide quality education to the people, particularly those in rural communities.

The provision of community study centres also formed part of a programme being rolled out in the next five years in 100 rural communities in the Ashanti, Eastern and Central regions, to help improve the performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (B.E.C.E.).

Operations Director

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Operations Director of YOUDRIC, Mr Daniel Attrams, called for community involvement in the provision of education since the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of providing quality education, especially at the basic level.

He urged the community members to create an enabling environment that would motivate teachers posted to the area to stay and contribute immensely towards improving the standard of education in the area.

He appealed to parents to encourage their children to make good use of the centre especially during weekends and vacations in order to improve their performance in school.

Programmes Director

For his part, the Programmes Director of YOUDRIC, Mr Eric Amano-Mpianim, noted that other strategies to be rolled out under the project were the formation of reading clubs to inculcate the habit of reading into students and pupils, provision of mobile library facilities, as well as the strengthening of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations.

A Deputy Director of Education in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, Mr Michael Mensah, admonished parents to encourage their children to use the facility to improve the educational standard in the district.

The Regent of the town, Nana Kojo Yeboah, thanked YOUDRIC and its partners for the provision of the centre.
