80 Students awarded scholarships
The Archbishop Andoh Education Endowment Fund has awarded scholarships to 80 brilliant needy students from the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.

The beneficiaries will be pursuing courses from the basic to the tertiary level.
The Dominic Kodwo Andoh, one-time Archbishop of the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, who passed away in May this year, began the endowment fund 12 years ago to support basic and second cycle school students. The initiative has since been extended to cover students at the tertiary level.
Speaking at this year’s scholarship awards ceremony at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra yesterday, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, appealed to the beneficiaries not to let the money being used as bursaries to finance their education go to waste.
“If you apply yourselves well, those who contributed would be proud of you,” adding that on completion of their courses, they should not despise people who would come their way, but give them whatever support they needed.
He expressed the belief that the beneficiaries would work hard to honour the memory of Archbishop Andoh.
Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle expressed the hope that the scholarship initiative would grow from strength to strength since “education is the key to a successful and fulfilled life”.
The Accra Arcdiocese of the Catholic Church has contributed in no small way to the delivery of education. The diocese can boast first and second cycle, vocational and technical schools or institutes and tertiary institutions.
The Metropolitan Archbishop commended the early missionaries who, among other things, worked towards the establishment of schools and hospitals through funds from their families and friends.
“It is our turn to extend a hand to needy brilliant students,” he said.
The Country Director of World Education Incorporated, a non-profit international organisation, Mrs Susan Adu Aryee, said support to the needy helped to reduce crime, streetism and other social vices.
She urged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the opportunity by working hard, staying focused and being disciplined.
The Chairman of the Archbishop Andoh Education Fund, Very Rev. Father Francis Adoboli, urged those who made pledges to the fund to endeavour to redeem them so as to sustain the fund.
According to him, pledges yet to be recovered for last year amounted to GHc 7,600.
Certificates were presented to the founding members of the board of trustees, committees and friends of the fund.
