Sponsored by Jolly Phonics Ghana Project, an affiliate of Jolly Learning Publisher in the United Kingdom, the workshop offered the participants the opportunity to improve upon their methodologies in teaching, reading and writing.

Topics treated included “learning the letter sounds, learning letter formation, blending, identifying sounds in words and spelling the tricky words”.

The Nkoranza North District Director of Education,  Mr James Appiah-Kusi, who addressed the participants commended Jolly Phonics for providing, the necessary resources towards the development of pre-school education in more than one hundred countries across the world.

He reiterated that the pre-school level formed the foundation of every child’s education and that teachers at such levels were required to be flexible and innovative in dealing with the schoolchildren so that they would lay a firm foundation for them for advancement.

Ms Karen Bridges, a Jolly Phonics trainer, stressed the need for pre-school teachers to involve their children in actions, songs and plays while teaching as that would make their lessons practical and interesting, saying children learnt better through such activities.

She said it was important that teachers also ensured the use of the five senses during their teaching as it was a unique approach towards children's education and development.

Mr Alex Reimmer, representative for Jolly learning in Ghana, disclosed that the  Jolly Phonics project had operated in the country since the past seven years and that they were serving in a number of private schools around Greater Accra Region.

According to him, public schools in the Nkoranza North District were the first to benefit from the project, which has begun as a pilot scheme.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Education Pre-School Organiser, Madam Grace Gyekye, was appreciative of the efforts of Jolly learning, United Kingdom for supporting the education of Ghana to move the country forward.
