The organisations are the Baptist Child Development Programme (BCDP) and the Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC).

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries, made up of 40 males and nine females, from the Gupanerigu, Cheshegu, Tolon, Gburimani, Zali, Kasuliyili, Kinguri, Wantugu and Gunda communities, were supported with a total of GH¢6,000.

Aside the financial package for the students, the two NGOs also presented a cheque for GH¢1,280 to the Tolon District Education Directorate to enhance monitoring and supervision of basic schools in the district to improve the standard of education.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale, Mr Amadu Kinyakib, the Programmes Coordinator of BCDP, advised the beneficiaries to study hard to justify the investment made by their benefactors and parents in their education.

He expressed concern about the drop-out rate among girls and called on the directorates of education in the two districts to embark on a campaign to educate parents on the need to give their daughters the highest form of education.

Mr Kinyakib pledged that the two NGOs would continue to work with deprived communities to provide quality education for all.

He stated that BCDP, with support from CCFC, would continue to identify and assist needy children in their areas of operation and sponsor them through the SHS to the tertiary level.

Appreciation

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms Grace Mahama, a JHS graduate from Cheshegu, who had gained admission to the Savelugu SHS to study Home Economics, expressed their appreciation to the NGOs and pledged that they would study hard.

Master Abdallah Rashid Firdaws, a continuing student at the Nalerigu Nursing Training College who had been a beneficiary of the support since his SHS days, said the package had been of tremendous help to him.
