He said Africa’s quest to attain its development goals depended heavily on the ability of public sector managers to perform and stressed that without a good public sector framework in Africa, there would be no sustainable development.

Training programme

Prof. Manu was addressing the closing ceremony of a training programme for public sector managers in Accra which was attended by 49 participants from five Anglophone West African countries—Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone. They were given certificates upon the completion of a one-year training programme.

The training programme is a sub-regional event hosted by GIMPA with support from the African Capacity Building Foundation and designed to provide participants, who are senior and middle level managers, with practical experiences in public sector management.

The programme also provided the participants with effective leadership skills to meet the development challenges in their various countries.

GIMPA’s role
Prof. Manu said over the past years, GIMPA had introduced programmes that were aimed at equipping the youth and public sector service workers with the knowledge to transform the country’s economic prospects.

Apart from that he said the institution had also made efforts to enhance its training mechanisms with the goal to boost the quality of training offered to the people.

Prof. Manu said GIMPA would continue to provide the highest quality of training for Ghanaians and the entire African continent.

Practical public sector policy
He, therefore, urged the graduates to design a practical public sector policy that would help develop their countries in an effective and efficient manner and establish a strong network in resolving regional issues.

In addition to the certificates presented to all the students, Mr Leonard Abbam Anaman, who emerged the overall best student, was presented with a certificate and cash prize, while Madam Josephine Senam Kepomey, the best female student, was presented with a certificate.
