35 Ghanaians study oil, gas in Korea

The Korean government has sponsored 35 Ghanaian students to Korea to pursue courses in oil and gas, as well as customs modernisation.

Out of the number, 15 will train in oil and gas plant operations and maintenance development, while the remaining 20 will be trained in customs modernisation. 

The training courses, being executed through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) fellowship programme, is aimed at developing the human resource capacity of partner countries.

It also seeks to bridge the gap of knowledge base between the developed and developing countries.

A press release issued by KOICA in Accra said: “the fellowship programme aims at sharing important technical skills and knowledge, and also to build capacity for sustainable development.”

It explained that the KOICA fellowship programme was generally categorised into different components such as country specific programme, scholarship programme and global fellowship programme and the project invitational training programme.

The release said “the prime focus of the programme is to help developing partner countries design their own effective development policies and to be able to use sustainable technologies to propel national development.”
