The Executive Director of the NSS, Alhaji Imoro Alhassan, who announced this at the launch of this year’s stakeholders’ conference in Accra yesterday, said the scheme was fully aware of the challenges graduates faced, especially after their national service and was committed to addressing them.

Over the years, the scheme has focused on creating opportunities for service personnel and building their capacity to access jobs and grow their own businesses.

The scheme also supports service persons to access funds to start their own businesses.

Platform

The conference, slated for August 7, 2014, will be on the theme, “Building Entrepreneurial and Employable Youth for National Development: The Role of the National Service Scheme and Stakeholders”.

Alhaji Alhassan said the stakeholder’s conference would also give an insight into the programmes, projects, achievements and challenges of the scheme.

He said the stakeholders inter-phase would provide a useful platform for stakeholders to share ideas and knowledge geared towards achieving maximum utilisation of the skills, talents and innovations of the young graduates for national development.

According to him, the conference would also offer stakeholders the opportunity to find pathways to user agency satisfaction and aid the effort at building responsible citizenship in national service personnel.

Encouragement

The Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, lauded the scheme for initiating the conference and described its theme as appropriate.

Mr Ashigbey expressed regret that some young graduates of tertiary institutions had formed an association of the unemployed.

He encouraged the unemployed youth to preoccupy themselves now by making use of other potentials they possessed, until they landed their dream jobs or got the chance to work as professionals.
