The Aglionby Library, which was constructed in 1962 to serve 60 students, is now patronised by almost 2000 students.

The refurbishment involved the replacement of floor tiles and painting of the walls. The group also donated items such as ceiling fans, air-conditioners, books and chairs.

According to Mr Wuni Mohammed Rufai, the President of the group, the reasoning behind the refurbishment was to help improve the conditions at the facility.

He said with the growing student population, there was the need for the library to be rearranged to enable the students to enjoy a conducive learning atmosphere.

Mr Rufai urged the students to form the habit of patronising the library regularly.

Essence of reading

“Reading is important in research work. If you don’t read, you can’t make any meaningful research. Therefore, we hope that with this refurbishment, the students will pursue their interest in reading,” he said.

Mr Rufai advised the students not to steal the books but rather keep them safe so that future generations could also benefit from them.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Samuel Ofori Adjei, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the group for their support.

He revealed that there was an ongoing three-storey building project in the school whose ground floor would house a library and ICT centre with the middle floor accommodating the new administration block and a staff common room.

The third floor, he said, would have a language centre.

Mr Adjei, however, bemoaned the slow pace of work on the building which started about four years ago, and attributed it to so many factors.

He, therefore, appealed to other year groups to visit their alma mater and help solve some of the challenges of the school.
