The cost of the computers, which had been packed in boxes and kept in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory since November last year, is yet to be determined.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Mensah Duku, who briefed the Daily Graphic on Wednesday, said the theft was only detected by a team of auditors who went to the school to conduct a forensic audit prior to the retirement and handover by the headmaster of the school, Mr Gregory Anwierenjeng.

ACP Mensah Duku said the boxes containing the computers had been kept in the ICT department because they could not be accommodated in the storeroom for lack of space during that period.

He said the computers, which were  in good working conditions, were packed into the boxes and kept in the ICT lab unused, and for all those months, the students were denied their use until the auditors detected the loss.

He said to the surprise and shock of all the teachers and non-teaching staff, when the boxes were opened for inspection by the team of auditors last Tuesday, they were empty but the boxes did not show any sign that they had been tampered with.

ACP Kwesi Duku said the headmaster then went straight to the Wa Police to lodge a report, after which the ICT master, Mr Remy Tenzagh, 45, and Mr Pascal Tang, 33, the storekeeper, were arrested and later granted police enquiry bail pending further investigation.

He said the police had also invited the headmaster to assist them in their investigations.
