12-Member council for Anglican University College

The Anglican University College of Technology (ANGUTECH) at  Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region has inaugurated a 12-member council to replace the Central Implementation Committee (CIC).

Chaired by Mr Daniel M.A. Owiredu, the council will steer the affairs of the university and set policies for its general operations. 

It will also approve new programmes for the university and assist in the annual evaluation of deans. Additionally, the council will facilitate communication between the college and the community.

 

Other members 

The other members of the council are Most Rev Prof. Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo (Chancellor), Prof. Albert Addo-Quaye (President), Mrs Justice Sophia Adinyira, a Supreme Court judge (member), Rev Canon Clement Azure (member), Rt Rev Dr Festus Yeboah-Asuamah (member), Mr Dennis Donkor (member) and Mr Ishmael Cyprian Oppong (member).

The rest are Mrs Georgina Lartey (member), Rev Canon Samuel Lanquaye Lamptey (member), Mr Benjamin Ayitey-Okine (member), and Rt Rev Dr Cyril Ben-Smith (member).

 

Role of private universities 

Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Education, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said private universities played a key role in the country’s educational sector.

While admitting that the fees of the private universities were quite high, Mr Ablakwa advised the students to take advantage of the Students’ Loan Trust Fund to help pay their fees.

He added that the government was committed to the growth and development of private universities in Ghana, and would do its best to initiate policies to support that objective.

 

Transformation 

In his address, the Chancellor of ANGUTECH, Most Rev Prof. Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, charged the newly constituted council to do its best to help in transforming the university.

He further tasked them to use their expertise to support the university to attain a higher recognition in the sub-region.

He commended the past executive of the CIC and called for their support for the newly constituted council.

Most Rev Yinkah-Sarfo stated that there was the need for the university to make use of its internally generated funds rather than relying on corporate support.

The occasion was also graced by dignitaries such as a former Minister of Defence in the Kufour administration, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, the Paramount Chief of Nkoranza, Okatakyie Kodom IV, and some Members of Parliament (MPs).
