In a television interview on the Delay Show, Gyan said his family currently gets about 50 percent of his attention, which he thinks was not enough.

“I can honestly tell you I am not fully committed as a father,” he told host Deloris Frimpong Manso when she asked him about how he felt about fatherhood.

He agreed he was not perfect but if he completes his football playing career, and settle in Ghana, he can become a good daddy, he said.

Asked about why he could not do same for his family as other professional footballers were doing it, Gyan said he was being truthful and would not want to be diplomatic about the reality.

In terms of providing for my family, I am a good father in that sense but in terms of spending time with my family, its “50-50”, he said. I think I can do better.

Talking about the kids, Gyan said Raphael [Second born] likes music whilst Junior [Asamoah Gyan Jnr], the eldest, plays football but lacks confidence.

He is a bit slow and I have asked his coach to push him a bit harder. I have also told him not to force himself to play football just because his father plays.

The youngest, Ohemaa, took after her mother, very cool but quick tempered, Gyan said.

On how to ensure that he does not retire and become a pauper in future, Gyan said he has invested his present earnings appropriately. “I can comfortably tell you I have invested.”

Some people make wrong investments but I’m sure I have made the right investments.

if I should become poor in future, that does not mean I did not invest, it could probably be my destiny because I have done what is humanly possible to ensure a good future for myself and my family.
