These things must stop

The controversy, which surrounded actress, Lydia Forson and hiplife artiste, Joey B’s trip to Kumasi for a gig recently, is embarrassing and unfortunate to say the least.

According to media, reports the artistes were prevented from leaving by staff of the hotel they lodged at because their bills had not been settled.

Lydia Forson has recently come to clear the air about the fiasco at the hotel and from what she wrote on her Facebook page, it is clear that the team, which invited the artistes to Kumasi, are to blame for what happened.

From what we gather from Lydia’s Facebook post, the event organisers were extremely unprofessional and were simply out to make a quick buck at the expense of the artistes.

“Note that our refusal to pay had nothing to do with whether we could afford to or not, it was purely on principle. We refused to allow these boys take even more advantage of us than they already had,” were the words of the actress.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time we are seeing such an incident and even more worrying is that we know it will not be the last.

We at Showbiz would like to ask our artistes to be extra vigilant when agreeing to perform or appear at events and gigs. There are always unscrupulous people, both within and outside the country who want nothing more than to ride on the fame and goodwill that artistes enjoy from fans to line their own pockets.

All we ask our artistes is to double check that their itineraries, logistics, payments etc are sorted out well in advance of their departure to the venues.

As artistes who want to establish themselves as brands, their names and image cannot be dragged in the media in connection with these humiliating situations.
