Galamsey thrives at Atiwa in spite of ban
Galamsey is still going on in the Atiwa District day and night in the full glare of the police, opinion leaders and some chiefs, as if there is no ban on the illegality.

The most annoying aspect is the operators of the changfan, who in the course of their activities, pollute the environment with noise and destroy water bodies.
Meanwhile, the police are doing nothing about it.
These illegal miners are having a field day because it is clear they are being shielded by the police.
It is common knowledge that anytime the military are coming to Atiwa the police give them prior information.
Thus, when the military arrives, there will be no one at the site.
I wish to appeal to the police administration and the Presidency, to effect a mass transfer of police personnel in all mining areas immediately, because their continued stay in these areas will make the ban ineffective.
The police personnel in the Atiwa District own fleet of cars and other valuable properties which are beyond their means.
These illegal miners have destroyed tracts of land, especially at Akwaborso, Akrofufu, Muoso, Anyinam, Kwabeng and other places and I think the law should compel them to reclaim these lands.
If that is not done, the lands will be destroyed forever. So when they are caught they should be convicted to deter others from engaging in these illegalities.
We are dealing with very powerful people.
