Also to be celebrated at the concert are four other Ghanaian music educationists/composers: Prof C.W.K. Mereku, Dr Joshua Amuah, Lawyer W. E. Offei and Mr Kenn Kafui.
“We are aware of the enormous contributions those people have made to the study of music in this country and also the value of their compositions. We believe they must be publicly appreciated and that is why we are holding what we call the ‘Republic Day Concert’ in their honour,” said Supt. Dr Hukporti, the Director of Bands in the Ghana Police Service.
Prof. Nketia, 96, is considered Africa's foremost musicologist and best- known authority on African music and aesthetics in the world. A strong advocate for the promotion of African values and culture, he has more than 200 publications and 80 musical compositions to his credit.
The Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, and several other dignitaries are expected to attend the 3.00pm concert which is free to the general public.
