Jeremy Rabyt premieres in Kumasi

The recent dominance of foreign soap operas on Ghanaian TV and its attendant threat to local production has apparently brought out the best in one of the country’s neophytes, Mr. Eric Tabi with the making of a movie, Jeremy Rabyt.

The movie which features local giant, Kwadwo Nkansah also known as Lil Wayne as the main character called Jeremy Rabyt, is to be premiered on September 11, at the Golden Tulip Kumasi City.

Other actors in the movie include Nana Ama McBrown, Akwasi Boadi a.k.a Akrobeto, Kwadwo Poku among others.

Jeremy Rabyt, his maiden movie, highlights the conflict between the modern ways of thinking and Ghanaian traditional practices such as rituals and libation.

At the launch of the movie in Kumasi recently, Tabi, said the movie industry in Ghana was controlled by the Kumawood Actors’ Guild which will be enforced at the premiering.

“The use of the local language in Kumawood movies puts it in ‘special realm’ which helps Ghanaians to own it” said Mr. Tabi who also directed the film.

Mr Tabi indicated that the promotion of the Ghanaian culture and its related issues was one of the sure ways of marketing Ghana and the film industry, thereby creating jobs and building people’s confidence.

He reckons however, that the Ghanaian film industry needs constant education and investments to match up with international films.

He noted that although the country is awashed with talents and gifted script writers but said it was not enough, and called for more training.
