GMA always a black tie affair - Nuamah

Founder of the Ghana Movie Awards (GMA), Phred Nuamah has expressed surprise at the public outcry concerning the dresscode for his upcoming awards ceremony which would be held on Sunday, December 4.

According to Mr. Nuamah, public discussion that the GMA had banned short skirts was absurd and a non-issue since the dress code for the event has always been a formal one and as such there was a strict attire that was prescribed for patrons.

“This has never been an issue since the GMA started in 2011. This is a formal event and the dress code has always been a black tie, tuxedo or traditional attire for men and an evening gown for women.

“Since the inception of the awards we have never had to deal with anyone coming in a short skirt,” he said.

Phred Nuamah added that patrons of the GMA have never failed to dress to specifications. “I believe this became a big deal because of how the media reported the incident. GMA has actually changed the system with regards to how people dress to events.

“Eurostar Limousines coming on-board to reward the best dressed patrons on the red-carpet has meant that everyone is forced to step up their game,” he said.

He told Showbiz that the impending elections has not affected preparations for the event but has rather boosted its profile.

“The general elections have not affected us in anyway and it’s actually the other way round. I am certain the politicians would rather attend the event in order to canvass for votes,” he added.

He also stated that, this year’s edition, which will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, will not accommodate a large number of patrons thus very limited tickets will be put out on sale although the event will be telecast live on DSTV and some local channels.
