Wayoosi seeks divine help

Diminutive actor, Wayoosi who used to be the prefered choice of producers for certain roles in Kumawood movies and a regular face on our screens, has been ‘missing in action’ in recent times.

New faces of actors with his kind of stature have been gracing the screens lately. And Wayoosi, who has not been very active in front of the cameras for the past two years says he saw it coming.

“ This is not a new thing in the movie industry because even bigger actors have been side-lined when new faces had come on board so I knew sooner or later, it would be my turn and it has happened,” he said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

Instead of him ranting and attacking producers for not casting him because of the new faces in the business, Wayoosi has decided to leave everything to God because  He knows best.

“I know a lot of people in my shoes would go about complaining about why producers are not casting them for roles anymore but there is no point in fighting over this. “Everything has its time and I believe it is time for the new ones to shine and also make  names for themselves.

“I cannot fight physically. Rather, I will rely on God for things to get better. I know it is God who installs and dethrones  kings.  I would rather allow God to take control than me fighting,” he said.

When it was pointed out to him that he is not being cast because he is a spent force, Wayoosi quickly retorted: “Let me use this opportunity to set the record straight; I have not lost my acting capabilities.

This is not the reason producers do not cast me anymore. It is just that, they want to try the new faces which I think is no big deal.”

Asked if he is not really bothered since he has decided to leave everything to divine intervention, Wayoosi remarked: “ Of course, I am not happy about it because I earn an income from making movies and since I am not being used by producers anymore, it will by all means go against me. I am losing out making a living.

“But I also believe that everything happens for a reason. I have other investments like my Wayoosi Pub in Kumasi which generates some income for me so I would say I am kind of comfortable financially but of course, earning additional income will always go a long way to help in so many other ways.”

Commenting on what he thinks about producers sidelining actors when new faces come on the scene, Wayoosi, real name Joseph Osei, said: “There is little I can do or say. I don’t produce movies so I cannot blame someone for what he or she uses his or her money for.

“ On the other hand, I think it is a good thing. It gives other people the opportunity to showcase their talents as well as serve as a source of income for them too.

Wayoosi is a product of the College of Arts in Kumasi. He has featured in over 50 movies which include Agya Koo Mechanic, Matricki Wo, Atofo Wuo, Mogya bi Akassa, Akoda Nyame,  Asem Aba Ghana and Papa Nebu.
