Sackey Sowah’s ‘Tro-tro’ at National Theatre
One of the plays patrons at this year’s Ghana Theatre Festival are likely to enjoy very much is Sackey Sowah’s ‘Tro-tro’ which will be performed on Saturday, October 1 at the National Theatre.

The play, which will be performed at 7.30 p.m., comments on the frustrations and disappointments passengers go through on a daily basis as they commute between their homes and various destinations.
An ordinary 15-minute trip from La to Accra Central ends up stretching into a two-hour, side-splitting face-off between a drunken driver and his foul-mouthed ‘mate’ on one side and a group of vociferous, no-nonsense, highly-charged passengers on the other.
The play is directed by Selasi Daphnies.
The seven-day festival programme is being organised by the management and staff of the National Theatre of Ghana and its resident groups.
One of the aims of the festival is to reach out to various theatre companies who have productions and the technical know-how but lack the space to showcase their performances.
A product of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Sackey Sowah is also a film director and screenwriter.
He is also the author of the famous ‘Firestorm’ play.
In a chat with The Mirror, he said ‘Tro-tro’ offered us a chance to laugh at ourselves, while critically looking at important issues such as flouting of traffic regulations, bribery and corruption and lack of tolerance.
“It is a must-watch production for everyone,” the writer said.
