According to his son Silas Yankson, the observation will start at 7am and end at 5pm.

“We urge everyone to come and be part of the one week observation, the date for the funeral proper will be announced on that day as tradition demands,” he told Showbiz last Tuesday.

Silas told this reporter that his siblings and himself are so devastated at the passing of their father but they are taking consolation in the fact that the good Lord will give him a peaceful rest.

Paapa Yankson passed on in his sleep last Friday at his Dansoman residence.

The multiple award-winning musician who had become wheel-chair bound perhaps mounted the stage for the last time when he received the Lifetime Achievement Honour at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson was born on June 22 1944 at Winneba. Even though both parents were musicians, they did not want him to follow in their footsteps. They wanted him to have a white collar job.

His father, Benjamin Akono Yankson, was a reputable trumpeter with the Apam Brass Band while his mother Akua Doma, a trader, was a member of the Christ Little Band of the Methodist Church.

His music potentials was discovered at the funeral of a neighbour and he landed his first music contract during his mother’s funeral some 40 years ago.

Since then, he has kept Highlife alive with the release of 15 albums made up of a repertoire of hit songs such as Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, among others.

Paapa Yankson has played in bands such as Western Diamond, Gold Nuggets and the Carousel Seven and has lectured and performed in many countries around the world.
