The project kicked off on Friday July 21 with a video message from Mr Alex Segbefia, Minister of Health, commending Okyeame Kwame for his relentless effort in fighting the spread of the hepatitis virus.

He also urged the general public to participate in the event; getting screened and vaccinated against the disease.

A collaboration with MDS Lancet Laboratories and endorsed by the Ministry of Health, the project has screened over 6000 people and vaccinated many against Hepatitis B, since its inception.

The exercise which aims at eliminating the viral disease across the country is in its seventh year. This year's project is under the theme "Hepatitis B Elimination, Our Next Greatest Achievement".

This year, with the support from Theobald Foundation, CSS Pharmacy in New York,  Kekeli Radio, Volta Regional Hospital and  Volta Regional Health Directorate, the Okyeame Kwame Foundation seeks to screen and vaccinate over 1000 people.

According to Okyeame Kwame, professionals from MDS Lancet Laboratories will conduct free screening of residents in Ho for the Hepatitis B virus.

“ Those who test negative will be vaccinated for free by nurses from the Regional Hospital while those who test positive will receive professional counselling from officials of medical personnel from the Ho Regional Hospital.

Condom use and a positive attitude is the way to go if we want to eliminate hepatitis. I therefore want to advise the general public, especially the youth to help in the fight against Hepatitis B by being condom wise at all times”, he added.

An after party dubbed, After Party with Okyeame Kwame, comes off on Saturday, July 30, at the Al-Tizza Pub and Grill  with Okyeame Kwame as the guest artiste.

According to the World Health Organisation (W.H.O), an estimated 240M people are chronically infected with Hepatitis B. More than 686, 000 people die every year due to complications from Hepatitis B such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.
