MUSIGA congratulates Akufo-Addo, commends Mahama

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has congratulated the President- elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on his election. A statement from the union’s president, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, said Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory was an expression of the will of Ghanaians after a keenly contested election.

The MUSIGA President conveyed the warmest felicitations from the music industry and the entire creative arts sector of the economy and said he looked forward to continued growth of the creative arts sector in general and the music industry in particular, under the incoming NPP government.

According to Obour, it was essential in the post- election era, for all Ghanaians to support the President-elect to chart a progressive and meaningful path for the continued development of the country as a whole.

The MUSIGA president also called on all citizens to avoid acts of violence to ensure that the peaceful elections we had was not marred by any negative post-election incidents.

MUSIGA engaged in several activities to help promote peaceful and credible elections in the run-up to the December 7 polls. The union’s initiative, dubbed ‘Using Music as a Tool for National Cohesion during Election 2016,’ was sponsored by STAR Ghana with support from Midland Savings and Loans.

Meanwhile, MUSIGA in another statement has expressed appreciation to the government of outgoing President John Mahama for its support for the music industry and the creative arts in general.

In the statement, the MUSIGA president thanked the Mahama administration for elevating the creative arts sector to a ministerial status. 

The union also commended the outgoing Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare for her keen support for the music business.

“We will cherish memories of the great times we had with both President Mahama and Mrs Ofosu-Adjare at the union’s various events such as the MUSIGA Grand Ball and Ghana Music Week.

MUSIGA hoped that the incoming sector Minister would continue with key projects started by the current administration.
