Kpalime gears up for Kpalikpakpa festival

The people of Kpalime traditional area in the South Dayi district of the Volta Region are embarking on a pilgrimage to their ancestral home at Kpalime in the Republic of Togo on Saturday, Septembber 17.

The pilgrimage is part of activities planned by the people to reunite with their ancestral home during the celebration of the 2016 and 19th edition of “Kpalikpakpa” festival of the people slated for October 8, at Wegbe Kpalime.

This is the second traditional area after Asogli in the Volta Region to have organised a pilgrimage to their ancestral homes in Togo to commemorate their festivals. 

The Asoglis had already gone on pilgrimage to Notsie ahead of the climax of their yam festival on September 17.

Launching the festival on the theme, “Education , Key to Development” at Ho last Sunday, the acting Fiaga of Kpalime traditional area, Togbe  Adza Wiah Kwesi II, said the festival is now driven on the quest for development for the people and not on war as was in the olden days.

He said, “ all citizens will be brought on board to deliberate on future development of the traditional area. This would culminate into the establishment of the Kpalime Development Authority to oversee the orderly development of all plans and strategies.

“ I also urge the people of Kpalime to be at peace with each other and the youth should team up with the elders of all communities to chart the same path for achieving a common goal”, he added.

Other activities planned for the festival include, clean-up excercise, tree planting, customary purification rites, playing of appellations of talking drums and tolling of church bells, a day of peace and reconciliation, candle light procession and thanksgiving service.
