Joenash making strides on radio

Campus radio stations may not be the most listened to stations but they continue to serve as learning platforms for students who want to pursue a career in broadcasting after school to hone and nurture their media skills.

University of Ghana's Radio Univers  for instance, is known for nurturing beginners and the station is renowned for producing some of the best broadcasters Ghana has seen over the last two decades.

This may have inspired and intrigued the top brass of Valley View University (VVU) to also set up a campus radio station, named Valley View Radio 97.7FM, for their students who are keen on being a part of the broadcasting fraternity after their studies in the university.

One such student who is using this media establishment of VVU to hone his radio skills is Joenash.

The 2015 graduate of VVU last weekend shared his radio journey with Showbiz.

"I got into radio in 2012, during my Level 100 second semester. My passion for radio started way back in secondary school when I was the entertainment prefect. I started as a deejay where I used to play at weddings, birthday parties and entertainment shows," he recalled.

"Playing songs and emceeing were something I enjoyed doing. So after my secondary school education, I enrolled at a media school to study broadcasting and disc jockey to get more knowledge about radio and television, ‘he added.

On how he juggled radio and school, Joenash said it was an onerous task combining both but by dint of discipline, proper time management and determination; he was able to chalk successes and achieve great results.

He's currently the host of Campuz Vibes, a radio show dedicated to all facets of campus lifestyles and students' related issues, which airs on Sundays between 8pm and 10pm on Valley View Radio.

"The name of the programme was initially Campuz Fylla and I have been hosting the programme for almost two years now.  I initially started the show singlehanded and by the grace of God, I have a solid team supporting me now.

“ The aim of the programme is to project and promote the youth beyond the boundaries of the school," he said.

Real name, Derek Danso Amoafo, Joenash got his BSc in Information Technology from the Valley View University in 2015. Before enrolling at the Oyibi based university, he was in St. Paul’s Secondary School in Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Joenash hopes to make it big on the radio scene to emulate the likes of the late Komla Dumor, Bola Ray, Kwami Sefa Kayi and Billie Ocean.
